Tantanmen @ Mame-deppou
Tantanmen! I guess I am used to a stronger spicy taste. Portions were large but I thought it tasted okay 🥺

Stayed here 10/25th night to 10/26 morning. The facilities are “retro”, and very charming. The location is perfect and walkable to the main shrines. Kaiseki was alright, with more quantity than quality. I felt bad wasting food so I tried to finish as much as I could, but it wasn’t amazing. The sliced beef was the highlight of dinner. The hot springs had designated tattooed-guest hours after 9PM with really clear instructions so that was very helpful.
Mango and Banana Crème Soufflé Pancake @Merengue
Solid, super fluffy. I think I needed to adjust to Japanese sweetness cuz it’s a lot less sweet than US desserts.
Squid Ink Pasta @Saizeriya Seven Park Ario
It had the biggest picture on the menu but it was alright. Squid pieces were pretty small, but had tons of pasta. Maybe shouldn’t have eaten the soufflé pancake beforehand.
Nikkosan Rinnoji Temple Historical Monzeki Graveyard
Religious Facility ・ Nikkosan Rinnoji Temple Historical Monzeki Graveyard, 花石町, Nikkō, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan
Amazing temple with beautiful garden.
BBQ Selection @ Yakitaro
It could have been that it was 9PM and we hadn’t eaten since noon or so, or the fact that we had like 4 restaurants refused us before they let us in… but this must be hands down the best grilled meat I’ve ever had in Japan

Ham Cheese Toast @ 10 DIXANS Cafe
Iced coffee was great! Toast was also amazing. Perfect location, filling toast and delicious coffee. No complaints.
Wagyu Katsu @Gyukatsu Kyoto
Combo came with salad, rice and miso soup. Included many dipping sauces (radish, curry, poached egg in sauce, salt and pepper, etc.) My friends went twice during their trip, so I was surprised at how okay it was. It definitely tasted delicious, but we had to share an plate-sized grill across the whole table and the meat didn’t really end up getting too warm… The location (inside Yodobashi camera) was also pretty warm… like if I were cooled off I’d be much more ravenous, probably.
Sushiya Ginzo @Shinjuku NS Building
Fairly priced sushi, located in the NS building which was more remarkable than the meal tbh 🥺 Paid for the ootoro sushi and it wasn’t better than Suruki market in San Mateo 🥲 Salmon was amazing however. And this location was super empty, so it’s easy to get seated. I’d recommend it for larger groups!
Gyutan Ippuku @Sendai
Miso beef tongue was killller. Raw wagyu was great, lemon flavor was a bit overpowering. We also had horse sashimi… which was surprisingly good too. Everything went perfectly with the rice. Only minus a half star due to the noticeably harsh fluorescent lighting and cramped seating area 🥲
Sashimi & Oysters @ Mori no Ichiba Market
Out of the way but very not crowded! Bought ootoro to try with oysters, but oysters were so salty :( ootoro was also just alright. Maybe we came too late?
