im an Edgar wright fan, so this was a bit disappointing!
I appreciated his snappy cuts and musically-timed action sequences, but overall the film wasn’t focused enough. it was entertaining for sure, but I wasn’t on the edge of my seat like I expected to be.
the set design was also pretty horrendous… it was giving marvel (in a bad way), the atmosphere of the opening acts felt too artificial.
I did however appreciate the themes of corporate greed, AI-generated media being used negatively, but some of it was too on the nose. I think it tried to cover too much breadth to say anything substantial about anything.
it is cool to see many directors’ response to the current state of things. living in dreadful times seems to provide a spark for artists— I can only hope. makes me want to revisit films in the 2000s to see what I missed culturally
Glen Powell is p hot though so it was enjoyable regardless 🙈
