what the hell WAS THIS TAYLOR??? im not a swiftie but ive been able to appreciate taylors songwriting especialling since she entered her pop era with 1989 and i loved folklore and lover as well. but. this is a HUGE fall off. ive seen so many people argue that this is just supposed to be a fun album, but that doesnt hold. 22 was a fun dip into pop for taylor before 1989 and it was SENSATIONAL and still is. 1989 itself was a fun experiment for taylor, she didnt expect it to be as successful as it was. fun, but the songs in that album literally had a generational impact on pop music. most people especially gen z remembers hearing half the songs on the radio constantly, like it was a core part of our early childhood music if you were listening to general pop or top40 radios. and thats literally the product of having fun WHILE ALSO having good songwriting and production. but this??? i cant even say im listening to pop music because the soundtrack is lacking so much, in addition to the fact the lyrics themselves are just. there? i feel like theres no emotion behind them, not even the excitement and enjoyment that was behind the fun stuff she did in past albums. ive seen people say she had to write an album that travis kelce could understand and wow that stuck because the song writing is so mediocre. and i dont want to promote the stereotype that sports bros are lacking in literacy but kelce does have a past of not understanding the depth of messages or his a little less than average writing. and i think her pr team knew and so did she how BAD this album was because the promotional up to it was lackluster as well π£ i hope taylor can get back in her swing of songwriting because this era is definitely lacking in the things that made past eras as distinct as they were
