Mustang
Movie / TV
a film i discovered in film studies; it is one of the international films i will have to write about, and happily so. it's a heartwarming and heartbreaking story altogether. sisters are faced with the reality of expectations put on them by those of the older generation. they are together at the start, but in the end, the journey can be painful but insightful. SPOLIERS AHEAD mustang was one of those films that really had me in my feels. the aesthetics were so nice– soft, warm, almost heavenly in contrast to the film's content. the story clutched at my heart; it was really saddening to see how the first three sisters had left, not by their own means. nur and lale, the youngest of them, had escaped to live with their teacher instead, and it really broke me, thinking about how the pair wouldn't live with their other sisters anymore. there was this one scene portraying the older three in an innocent, heavenly light. atop the bus, they are free, in contrary to their married life, and in one case, death. it was the scene that made me cry– the visuals, the melancholic music, the implications... *chilling, but real.* i hope that i never forget about mustang. it really changed my views on expectations of women from other countries, how they don't have the same culture as i do.
