Ponyo is the only Ghibli anime that I quit watching halfway through when I was a little girl. I don't know why my childhood self quit watching it, but I'm sure the timing wasn't right. Watching the film this time, I felt Ghibli's way of showing the threat of the ocean as the greatness of nature that has embraced all forms of life in a unique way. Ponyo, born to a mother as generous as the ocean itself and a father whose emotions move in waves like human emotions, was exposed to a new world and innocently absorbed various experiences, which made me feel both the rich flexibility of children, including myself, as a young child and the motherhood that watches over them.
