I've heard about Substack so much in the past few months that I decided to give it a try today. Expectation: • only articles and essays • no typical social media posts (like tweets or threads) • more educated content Reality: • people can post whatever basically, so there’s a lot of the typical viral content only more “aesthetic” • a lot of the essays I’ve got on the home page lacked effort and felt like they were written after a quick Google search • so so so performative. evrey other post is about how different and special people who use the app are. Maybe the app’s algorithm is bad? I’m sure there’s good content out there but it seems to need some digging to find.

heavy on the performative writing. it's like ppl are avoiding writing those cringey but awfully authentic pieces anymore. their writing now sounds like #collegeessaycore
