The final 20 minutes of this movie make me crying. The "diary reveal" scene is a masterclass. the moment when the boy finally realizes what he has lost, and The moment Haruki asks Sakura's mother, "Can I cry now?" is one of the best voice-acting performances in anime history. It isn't a graceful, cinematic single tear. It is ugly, hyperventilating, guttural sobbing. It is the sound of a dam breaking. After an entire movie of being a robot, seeing him completely fall apart is deeply satisfying and agonizing. A 10/10 emotional rollercoaster. It will break your heart, but you’ll be glad it did. Bring tissues.
