This movie follows a man consumed by his love for the stage. After losing everything in youth, he finds purpose in performance. Abandoned due to his bloodline, he trades his soul to have his place in the art world… ignoring his daughter and manipulating a young woman to rise again. Through suffering and ambition, he finally earns the title of “treasure.” 俊介 is my favorite. Born into privilege, he has all the resources and support of his father, yet runs away after watching 喜久雄 perform alone for the first time. His father’s decision to let 喜久雄 take the lead feels like tough love… an attempt to challenge his son… but it backfires. What’s more irony is that 俊介, heir of the great family, dies from the bloodline that once symbolized artistic purity. same with 喜久雄, the stage is also everything to him. Can’t imagine how painful it is while performing those steps with his decayed toes… not to mention standing on stage until his very last moment. The main actors’ performance is remarkable! eyes, expressions, and gestures show an authentic love for traditional theatre. You can feel the passion in every scene. The costumes and stage art are breathtaking too. However, the tone and rhythm of the play’s vocal style were hard to grasp. Still, every element of the performance feels refined and deeply cultural. Overall this movie explores obsession, inheritance, and the price of art.
