The pacing is perfect! light and smooth, but still straight to the point. It pulls you into the mission quickly, starting with mystery and confusion, then slowly clearing things up and ending on a really satisfying note. Honestly, no boring moments at all, even though it’s mostly just space, a spaceship, a couple of “ex-coworkers”, and an alien. Ryan Gosling is seriously born for this kind of role! he absolutely nailed it. Grace is a scientist turned teacher who never thought he’d be a hero. He might’ve dreamed of doing something big in science, but definitely not a one-way space trip. Ryan makes him feel super human and relatable since the struggle he goes through is actually pretty deep. And Rocky is the best surprise ever. So lucky Grace meets a friendly, cute alien instead of something trying to eat him. The friendship between Grace and Rocky goes beyond species and planets and it’s honestly heartwarming. The part that hit me the hardest was when Eva sang the karaoke version of “Sign of the Times.” The rhythm, the lyrics, the whole atmosphere was insane. It felt like the most desperate yet hopeful moment at the same time. Overall, this movie is fun, smart, and a bit too idealistic, but I’m totally okay with that.
