Firts things first, I did not went to the movies today expecting to see a faithful adaptation of the brilliant novel by Emily Brönt. That being said, I did not expected to be so dissapointing. This movie left me feeling what I already new, that Emerald Fennell is a coward in many levels. Not all the efforts put in this movie by its crew and cast could made it something more then it was destined to be: a bad fan fiction of the desire of Emerald Fennell to be f*cked by Jacob Elordi (which puting the whitewashing factor beside, is actually a great surprise in his role). Just sad, really sad to see this adaptation. I have plenty of things to say about this film, but it’s just not worthy it. The beginning and the end of it were really beautiful, tho.

I waited a long time to finally watch Lord of the rings, and I regret this decision. I wish I’ve watched it sooner, this is a beautiful, well made film adaptation. The universe created by Tolkien is alive in every frame, character, place. It’s just so stunning, it left me breathless for most of it, some scenes made my blood shiver and made my eyes cry. Elijah Wood (my dearest boy) is a lovely hero, I love his character Frodo. He is an innocent person and yet the bravest of them all. This film really made feel in the unique world of Tolkien, now I really want to read the trilogy.

All there was, was silence and tears. That was all it needed of me.

How much violence it takes to stop us from being humans? How much suffer and humiliation kills one’s humanity? There isn’t a right way to act against a man, against a regime, that took your humanity, your dignity, that broke you. I love how all the characters from this movie have so many contrary feelings related to revenge. You could bring a man’s child into this world, the man that took everything from you, and that same man would continue to not have respect or mercy for your life. This movie is a masterpiece against authoritarians and violent regimes, truly left me speechless, I could not look away. This is how you construct rythm in a narrative, it kept me tense from the beginning to the end, especially the end. Really really good.

What happens when something so painful passes through generations? What happens when a love that has become sick begins to poison other relationships? Is there a way to heal from disappointments, from unfulfilled desires, from absence? An absence so deep that it corrodes you? What happens when you love someone deeply and hate them at the same time? What happens when the person who brought you into the world, your father or your mother, abandons you in such cruel ways? What do we become with this empty home? Sentimental Value stood before me like a mirror: a family silently sick, deeply wounded to the point where it falls apart. Absence is something so painful that the lack of words to explain it seems to fit perfectly. There is such an immense need for love in the characters of this film that, at some point, I began to feel deeply nauseated. The pain of absence is so rooted in their gazes that it turned my stomach and held me there until the moment when the tears could no longer be contained: “I want a home. I want a home.” The monologue about faith in God is brutally honest. There are moments when the pain is so overwhelming that all that remains is to throw myself on the floor and cry, to beg for that home to return, to beg for a home that is not yet mine. Please love me. Please don’t leave me. What happens when we are willing to ask for forgiveness and to forgive? What happens when we decide to stop staring at such a cruel memory? What happens when we allow the crack to close? There are not enough answers for so many questions, but after watching this film it becomes impossible not to feel that something new, something beautiful and deeply honest, happens when we are willing to move forward.
