They say some people are tied together by the red string of fate — a connection meant to lead you to someone.
Back in middle school, I used to join a few science contests. It wasn’t unusual to see the same contestants over and over again, but there was one person I kept noticing. The first time was during a rotary quiz bee. I saw a group of three boys and somehow, one of them stood out to me. After that, we crossed paths a few more times in different competitions.
Eventually, I transferred from my old private school to a science high school. During the summer camp, I ended up being placed in the same classes as him. I didn’t think much of it at first. Before classes started, I was scanning through the class list, happy to see my cousin’s name and my bestie’s but as I read further down, I saw his name too. Truly what a coincidence.
We didn’t interact much during our first year. It wasn’t until our second year that we unknowingly became friends.
That’s how I became best friends with my boyfriend. I don’t know if the red string of fate is real, but sometimes I can’t help but think how funny it is that we met this way.
