Finally finished this giant almanac of knowledge on sleep‼️😴 As the title suggests, this book is all about sleep, but not just in a surface-level way. It dives deep into the science behind it, backed by actual empirical data and research. I really liked how almost everything Walker presents is supported by evidence, often with studies and data referenced throughout the book. Some of the facts might sound almost unbelievable at first, but the further you read, the more convincing they become. It really makes you realize just how powerful sleep is, almost like a natural medicine and one of the most effective “drugs” our body has access to. The book pretty much covers everything you could possibly want to know about 'the power of sleep', and I enjoyed how each topic is broken down into smaller sections and chapters, so it never feels like you're reading one giant wall of information. One thing that probably explains why I’m giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is that, toward the end, I felt like the author was really trying to convince us to prioritize sleep above almost everything else. I get it: he’s a sleep scientist who genuinely loves the art and science of sleeping, and he clearly wants his readers to fall in love with it too. But at some point, it felt a little too pushy. I mean, people who don’t get enough sleep are usually doing something for a reason, right? It’s not like everyone actively chooses to sacrifice their rest for no reason. Sometimes there are simply other things that need to be done. Still, maybe that slightly preachy approach is exactly what I need. I’ve been taking my own sleep for granted lately, so hopefully this book can be the eye-opener I need to start taking sleep more seriously and build healthier habits that actually align with my natural circadian rhythm.
