Freedom, I think, is quieter than most people make it. It’s not running away or starting over or proving something. It’s just loosening your grip. Letting go of expectations people handed you before you even knew you could say no and letting go of the idea that every moment of your life has to sparkle or mean something or be worth witnessing. Because I do want to be seen, I want someone to look at me and get it without me having to explain. I crave validation like it’s air sometimes but that doesn’t mean I owe the world a performance. It doesn’t mean I have to shine every single time I show up and it certainly doesn’t mean I failed just because I was quiet today. People love talking about “peaks” and “rock bottoms” like life is a graph, like you’re only allowed to move up or down. But I don’t believe in that. I think that’s just another way to trap yourself and another way to feel behind. There is no “peak” there is no “lowest point” that defines you forever. There is only who you choose to be when you wake up and decide what parts of yourself you’re bringing with you today. Some days you’re softer, some days you’re sharp. Some days you’re tired of being self-aware and you just want to exist without narrating it. That’s literally still you. Shame only works when you give it permission. When you let other people decide what your life should look like. But once you take control back, it loses its grip. You don’t have to shine every time. Dim is not the same thing as dull. Things don’t have to make sense to anyone else. You don’t need a reason that sounds good out loud. You don’t need to explain your choices or justify your timing, or defend the way you feel. If it makes sense to you, that’s enough. You can be glittery and rare and impossible to ignore, you can also be ordinary and still and unremarkable in the most peaceful way. You don’t have to choose one version of yourself and stay there forever. You’re allowed to change, you’re allowed to contradict yourself, you’re allowed to outgrow things without turning them into lessons. You don’t have to be rare all the time to be valuable.
