I watched this over the course of a week because I needed a breather between episodes (TW: Death). This drama is on a whole new level — the CGI, color schemes, and world-building are stunning. There are still some moments of bad CGI and heavy studio lighting, but it’s not too bothersome. The casting was good. Ao Ruipeng really did a great job bringing his characters to life, and you’ll be able to differentiate them right off the bat. I was quite disappointed with Bai Lu because I sometimes felt that some of her scenes were too flat, particularly the crying parts (I know she can do better than this). The side characters were also well chosen. The chemistry is not bad, it's there but something is missing. The overall plot was good, and I believe the events were necessary, but it does get too repetitive (you may find it boring). Every character has their purpose, and they lived for that. My favorite part would be the Mu Jiu arc — I loved his character and how he resolved things. I need to put this here: I was this close to dropping the drama. It felt too slow at times, and there were scenes that could have been removed. I stayed mainly for the plot and for Dai Luwa — I REALLY love her character, and honestly, I feel like this drama would fail without her. She was the reason why I picked this up in the first place. When I got around Episode 33 or so, I knew I did the right thing because things started to get interesting. You can anticipate early on what will happen, but seeing how they executed it left me in awe. I was really in love with how vibrant the color scheme is. Additonally, the ending was not rushed, and they gave a well deserved closure for the viewers.
