Girl singing in the wreckage- 🟪 every teenage girls life, "singing in the wreckage" meaning surviving lifes' chaos. Reminds me of Portis head. England made me- 🟩 very interesting lyrics, looked it up and the album itself is based on Graham Greenes novel about post-war England. New baby boom- 🟧 very sarcastic tone, and very obviously social commentary. sonically not my favorite. It's only the end of the world- 🟦 About losing the excitement and wonder once found in one's life. Would listen to while staring at the ceiling. Ideal home- 🟧 once again very sarcastic tone. lyrics describe a superficially happy home, but tone of which it's said makes it clear it's all fake. A happy home only because it's all controlled. Sonically It's not a song I would listen to often, but I can appreciate the lyrics and experimental nature. Child psychology- 🟪 The song that made me listen to the whole album in the first place. Very cynical lyrics about childhood troubles/trauma. "life is unfair, kill yourself or get over it" -what one would hear as a child from an empathy lacking adult. Very blunt lyrics that carry the same tired tone of the other songs. I C One female- 🟧 experimental but I don't like it, would not listen to. Uptown top ranking- 🟥 ok so sonically I like it, however the lyrics made me cringe. Would listen to if not for the repeated use of "ting". I actually don't mind repetitive songs but repeating that word was not necessary. Feels like a boomer trying to sound cool. Swinging- 🟩 sounds like a lullaby, love the bg instrumentals and vocals. Kidnapping an heiress- 🟦 not bad. Wonderful Life- 🟩 I like the instrumentals, pretty good song. Hated Sunday- 🟦 Seasons in the sun- ⬛ A mediocre rendition of Terry Jacks' seasons in the sun. I prefer the og. This one doesn't bring out the same emotion as Terry Jacks' version, that i love and grew up on, does. Sounds incredibly un-enthusiastic compared to the og. It's like they sucked all the life out of it. (note: this one isn't even on this album, it's on the 2023 remastered version. I actually accidentally listened to it and thought it was, however my rating still stands) Ratings Key: ⬛ (Blacklisted) 🟥 (Awful) 🟧 (Would Not Listen To) 🟫 (Meh) 🟦 (Okay) 🟩 (Good) 🟪 (Amazing) 💯 (Perfect)
Had high hopes for this album after hearing child psychology, but was let down. The entire album holds the same tone and I got bored quickly. Besides "girl singing in the wreckage" and child psychology" I don't see myself listening to the other songs often. I can appreciate the experimental feel of it (especially for the time it was released). However, that "experimental feel" quickly became every single song on the album.
