so... I watched the new Spider-Man movie and... DON'T BE DECEIVED BY THE LOWER RATING I LOVED THE MOVIE IT BROUGHT ME TO TEARS... i do have some mild criticisms about the plot and the science aspect of it, hence why i deducted a a little bit from the rating. acting was top notch as always, love how zendaya captured all those nuances required for the plot, no spoilers here though (yet) I'm not sure if it was just me tripping but there were a lot of incidents that were referred to that I don't think have happened in movies... Might just be my bad memory, I appreciate that the movie still made sense though. I think Spiderman movies in general are more approachable for beginners to watch, as compared to the rest of the Marvel saga, which is pretty neat. This one was a tear-jerker though... I like the emotional themes that were discussed in the movie, but it felt a little forced in the end. Like, the ending wasn't as convincing to me and the "lesson" you learn at the end felt pretty generic, even though the circumstances were more nuanced. They also didn't develop the important new characters as much as I would've liked...backstories felt a little basic for Marvel. I do love the classic humour that comes with student characters LMAOOO. Ned is a sweetheart with or without his memories. and now, spoilers ahead !! ok so...jean is attractive asf ehe. besides the point. the whole jean turning good at the end part because of ONE shared memory felt a little forced to me. like you're telling me this girl with telepathic powers and the impulse to do anything it takes would just suddenly stop after one instance of empathy shown to her or smth? my mom predicts that she'll appear again later, do some evil shit but my prediction is that she'll get dragged into the mini women avengers squad. still don't really know where they're going with that. the other thing, i feel like the plot this time was much weaker as compared to other Marvel movies. like it felt like one incident just being told in enormous detail, ig? and the threat of jean just didn't feel very grand because we had no clue if v-max was some weapon or whatever. also I just KNEW that guy from damage control would be trouble...never trust authorities, kids! it is slightly overused now in marvel though, which is why i was able to catch on so quick. interestingly enough, i was able to understand a lot of the scientific shit they said in the movie about the genetics. but when you have all that stuff i keep asking more questions as to how the shit actually works which is, ofc, never really answered in the movies because it's fiction. the tech doesn't exist yet. interesting in theory but somehow knowing exactly what they were bs-ing about takes the fun out of the sci-fi aspect. the depictions of overstimulation were very cool in 3D. for some reason MJ and ned felt very...idealised as characters this time around? like they were supposed to be perfect in every way, which is not what i felt watching the previous spiderman movies. if it's on purpose that's a pretty cool detail, considering peter hasn't been part of mj or ned's lives for four years presumably. from his pov they'd naturally seem idealised or "perfect". overall, great movie, but it doesn't have the underlying existential thread most Marvel movies have imo. and maybe that's not such a bad thing after all.
