Currently running a high fever right now but I just had to rate this book lmao I originally picked it up for funsies because I found it hilarious that it was actually a Reylo fic and Daisy Ridley’s actual husband, Tom Bateman (the one Tom Benton is based on 🤣) is playing Adam Carlsen in the live action adaptation, but I ended up actually liking it. The first reason I ended up liking it because Dr. Adam Carlsen is SOOOOOO Dr. Zayne coded HAHAHAHA even though Adam is a PhD and Zayne is an MD, their gentle, calm, stoic demeanors are so alike and I think that’s honestly why I gave it 5 stars (I am biased). It starts off as a very typical fake dating trope, but there are hints of a reveal in the middle and eventually a big reveal in the end. The dynamic between the two is fun, and I think it also qualifies under grumpy x sunshine, except grumpy is very sweet and gentle to sunshine. I really like that dynamic. Another reason why I liked it is because of the STEM theme. It’s a field I am very familiar with, and despite me being on the medical side of it and the characters being on the academia side, the mention of research and the laboratory setting (the departments, the techniques) made me feel right at home. It is also very empowering and honestly, it made me think about going into academia. However, even if you aren’t in the STEM field, you’ll still be able to digest the story really easily. It’s a fun and quick read, and I’m kind of upset that it felt so short for me. I fell in love with the characters and I already miss them. I think this goes under my guilty pleasure reads. Fair warning, there is one 18+ chapter that’s quite detailed, so please do not read it unless you are of age.
