I didn’t particularly love it, maybe because it was more Janci writing in Brandon’s universe than Brandon himself. I was really happy that Nedd, imo the most tragic character in this entire universe, FINALLY got something good in life. We also got quite a lot of Arturo and Alanik, which I enjoyed. But the romantic subplots feel kind of like filler? They come across as a little forced. Honestly, quite a lot of things in this book feel forced compared to the previous series. With this book, we’re going back to the format we had in Cytonic, but while that was more of an adventure story with sci-fi elements, this one was… FANTASY? With sci-fi elements? Although not to quite the same extent. I’m also glad we got more of Gilaf and actually got to see his personality, but we have absolutely no idea what happened to Kimmalyn after the battle of Evensong. Apparently, she’s so unimportant to this new series that she basically doesn’t even exist in it. What I’m most worried about, though, is that by the time the next book comes out, I’ll have completely forgotten the plot of this one.
