i discovered this absolutely GORGEOUS bird today and i cant stop thinking about it...... today's bird is the strawberry finch! the strawberry finch, also known as the red avadavat, is a small bird, usually about 4 inches (around 10 cm) long. males are quite striking, especially during breeding season, with a bright red body covered in white spots. their wings are brownish with some red, and they have a dark tail. females are a bit duller, mostly brown with some reddish tints and fewer, fainter white spots. both sexes have a conical, reddish beak. the strawberry finch, has a pretty widespread natural habitat across tropical asia. they're originally from countries like india, bangladesh, pakistan, and sri lanka. you can also find them further east in places like myanmar, thailand, cambodia, vietnam, and even some parts of indonesia. they tend to prefer open grasslands, fields, and areas near water, often close to human settlements or cultivated lands, which makes sense given their diet of seeds and insects. they're quite adaptable, which is probably why they've managed to thrive in such a broad range of locations. strawberry finches primarily eat small seeds from grasses and weeds. they also supplement their diet with insects, especially during breeding season when they need extra protein. they mostly forage on the ground, hopping around in grasses and low vegetation to pick up seeds and insects. they're pretty good at spotting tiny seeds! fun facts : -the males are famous for their dramatic seasonal color change. outside of breeding season, their vibrant red fades to a duller brown, making them look much more like the females. -they have a soft, melodious song and various chirps and calls, wich are quite pleasant to hear.
