Rental Family, directed by Hikari is such a soulful movie that leaves a mark with us, even after the movie ends. The concept is so unique and was very new for me due to which I got to enjoy it thoroughly. The performances by each and every actor deserves lots and lots of praises. Each of them performed really well. Brendan Fraser plays the role of a struggling actor in Japan. His struggle to find purpose in life takes a turn when he gets a gig with an agency who helps strangers by providing them with people for stand-in roles. Here, Brendan Fraser's Philip is sent to enact two roles: one of a reporter who wants to get an interview from Kikuo Hasegawa, a former actor, who has developed dementia and his daughter fears of him not being remembered by anyone. The second is a small child named Mia, who's mother wants her to get her into a prestigious school and hires him to pose as Mia's father. With the passing of time, he starts to form genuine bonds with the two clients that begins to blur the line between his acting and reality. Brendan Fraser has done an amazing job to convey the moral ambiguity of what the character is going through very well. This movie is about rediscovering one's self, purpose and the beauty of human connection.
