Sorry, but I found this one very overrated and not nearly as scary as I expected. I expected more from Japanese horror because we all know they don't usually hold back when it comes to being terrifying, but this one wasn't giving what it was supposed to give??? The aesthetic was interesting, but the plot felt inconsistent throughout the whole movie. Honestly, the acting was probably the only thing that really wowed me. Don't get me wrong, it's not entirely bad! The earlier parts, especially most of the found footage scenes, were genuinely creepy. But for some reason, the pacing got faster and faster toward the end, and instead of building up the tension, it felt like the movie was rushing to get everything over with. And that ending? Yeah, that's it? What was that? You can tell me that I (maybe) don't get the symbol/meaning behind any of it, but it just definitely not good😊 I've seen a lot of people say that this isn't the best adaptation of the book and that the original is WAY scarier. Honestly, watching the movie first has kind of killed my motivation to read the book for now. Maybe I'll get around to it someday, but who knows when.....
