I got this book today because I wanted to get a new poetry book (even tho I got two books to finish already) and I’m on page 9. So far the poems really get you to think about the difference in education between Black folk back then to now and you can also see the importance of music back then as well. A lot of these poems so far are songs that were sung by slaves to communicate which today we still use music as a form as expression but most of these poems were used as a warning. It’s also interesting that you can’t find some of these songs online so you don’t know how they were sang. My rating rn is kinda low because I just started the book so I will be back when I finish it but so far good stuff in here!
