FUCKING BEAUTIFUL AND MY FAVORITE HORROR RELESSE OF THE YEAR SO FAR! I've been waiting for this beauty to hit digital for months now and how happy I am! This is basically a psychological horror about the dangers of obsession shown through a extremist and scary lens. The actress that played Nicki needs a award of some for her brillitan performance. Her acting took this whole film onto another notch, making everything seen so scary, and uncanny valley. The plot/concept isn't anything new. We have seen it in children movies before like that one scene from descendants, when Mal used a spell on the prince, or in zapped, but this one definitely took it a extra level with layers of darkness. A guy, crushing on a girl buys a "magical stick" which he didn't think would work, and it did. He wished for loved, but that wish translated into a unhealthy obsession for his crush Nicki. In the first half, I would say Bear was a good guy. He didn't know why the changes in Nicki was sudden, and went with the flow. This changes around half way mark when he clearly sees that his wish worked, yet he kept taking advantage of the situation until it got extreme and manic. Nicki remains completely good throughout the movie, while her alter self is a complete and obsessive demon. The cinematography was decent, and the psychological aspect without the constant need for jump scares to sell it. I think this movie deserves all the hype it's been given. It remains me of a earlier indie movie with the same concept named "dark spells" but that one was not helped by a bigger studio or distributor.
