Damn, this was SO COOOOL. I’m not a video game player, but I’m pretty familiar with the Resident Evil franchise, and after watching this, hell, I actually wanna play the games now‼️ I’m not a big RE fan and I probably missed a lot of the fanservice scattered throughout the movie, but I could still tell which parts were clearly taken straight from the games. This is genuinely such an effective video game adaptation, especially considering it’s only around 1.5-ish hours long. I love that the movie isn’t afraid to fully embrace its video game identity, and it even turns that into a joke several times in such spontaneous and genuinely funny ways. I’ve also never watched any of the previous "Resident Evil" movies (and from what I know, there have already been quite a few adaptations), so I came into this with basically zero expectations. But man, Zach Cregger truly did it once again for me. Every single jumpscare felt earned, not cheap, and was genuinely unexpected and fresh!! He also somehow manages to throw in comedy at just the right moments throughout this tense zombie thriller, and the camera work had me absolutely losing my shit. Honestly, I have almost nothing to complain about. If I had to nitpick, maybe the monster designs were a 'little' underwhelming for me (emphasize on little). They didn’t really look that scary, and I felt like the movie started off with this really creepy and anxiety-inducing atmosphere, but as it went on, that horror vibe slowly faded and it became more of a fun FPS/TPS game adventure straight out of the actual games (CMIIW with all this ke-sotoy-an ini pls). But hey, maybe THAT was the whole point hahahah
