This was a really fun time. I can totally see why people who never watched the original animated series might find this movie a little cheesy or cringe or weird at times. But honestly? I had a blast with it. Even tho I'm not from the generation that grew up watching the cartoon on TV, I was still familiar with it through clips and videos I looked up myself over the years, so I wasn't completely going in blind. What surprised me the most is how committed the movie is to being a pure adventure-comedy film. Nowadays, it feels like every blockbuster is trying to be something else (and put some weird message behind it), but this one fully embraces the adventure aspect from start to finish. It's definitely an all-ages movie, but that doesn't stop this from throwing in plenty of family-friendly comedy, heartfelt family moments, and positive messages about perseverance, loyalty, and relationships through that high fantasy world building. It was a complete package. It has meaningful themes, entertaining action, and a good balance between spectacle and storytelling. The action scenes are exciting to witness, and the over-the-top visual effects never become distracting. Honestly, it really feels like the animated series brought to life on the big screen, such a spot-on adaptation. I had a great time with it, although I do think the runtime was a bit longer than it needed to be for this type of movie. Also, for everyone who doubted Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, I think he completely proved himself here. He was fantastic as Prince Adam and brought a lot of charm, funny moments, and charisma to the role. Camila Mendes was also incredibly badass as Teela. I think this might actually be the first time I've seen her in a big screen? The only thing I'd seen her in before was the "Riverdale" series, where I honestly thought her performance was a little weak there (tho she was definitely still gorgeous lol). But she has improved a lot here, and I think action-adventure movies might actually be the perfect fit for her.
SOUNDTRACK, Nicholas Galitzine😋
