I made an internship friend during my second hospital rotation. She was an intern from another school and we met during one AM shift together in the Microbiology department. I was a little nervous because there were two of them from the same school on duty in that department and only one of me. But she was very nice and taught me the ropes because it was my first day. We barely had any shifts together after that but she was so sweet and kind whenever we managed to pass each other in the lab. We exchanged compliments and words of encouragement and she was genuinely one of the best people I met during my internship program. Last week, her school’s internship schedule with the hospital we were in ended, and we eventually had to say goodbye. She’s now in a different hospital, while I’m on my last week of duty in our current hospital, but before she left, she mentioned that I’d be meeting one of her friends soon who was part of the new batch of interns from their school who were coming to rotate at the hospital after them. She told me that her friend also liked Moomin (I had a Moomin pouch where I stored my gloves) and that she told her friend about me. I made sure to remember her friend’s name. Yesterday, I finally met her friend, and she was just as sweet and kind as the intern friend I made. We had just met (I was on my way out from an AM shift and she just about to go on duty for her PM shift) but we were already giggling and excitedly talking about how her friend had mentioned us to each other. We shared compliments (she said I was so cute 🥹) and spoke for only a few minutes before I had to leave, but that interaction really made my day. I think it is so wonderful to meet girl’s girls, those who are connected by other girls, those you share friendly smiles and excited chatter with, those who are so sweet and kind, those you know have got your back without even having to say it, despite you only just knowing each other for a few months or even for just a few minutes. We probably won’t be seeing each other again (or maybe we will, who knows?) but I don’t think I’ll ever forget those two. They’re part of who really made my last few months of internship wonderful ❤️
