INSANEEE. Even tho I watched this film kinda late, and the first act all the way to the climax felt reaaaally slow, it still delivered such insane shock value hahahahahh. I don’t know why, but Japan is seriously one of the countries that always manages to innovate and create something new, memorable, and super influential in the film industry. This movie feels cool, scary, creepy, beautiful, curious, and seductive all at once... literally everything mixed together. Honestly, I had to continue watching and finish it in the morning because I was too scared to watch it alone at night, even tho there aren’t even any ghosts or spirit in this movie lmao (sometimes humans are way scarier than ghosts or supernatural stuff anyway). I really like the way Takashi Miike slowly and surrealistically reveals the mystery throughout the story, so the climax hits even harder at the end. Kinda sucks that I watched this on KlikFilm because some scenes were blurred out (but STILL grateful for the platform cause it has dozen of indie and cool movie collection), probably because they were too gory. And yeah, I totally get why some people wouldn’t enjoy it: the pacing is very slow at the beginning and some of the flashback scenes are super surreal. Definitely not for everyone. But personally, I loved it, and now I really wanna check out more of his films.
