A movie from my childhood that felt like a fever dream, mysterious and haunting, and the first dark fantasy world that truly pulled me in. You could say it was the OG version of Coraline before I ever watched Coraline itself. It left me with this strange mix of discomfort and awe because of its incredibly unique fantasy world. Thanks to this film, I’m still obsessed with the song “They Long to Be Close to You.” They really don’t make movies like this anymore these days. Sidenote: I really love the atmosphere of the music theme in this movie.
