Watching this felt like Ti West threw a lot of horror/thriller/slasher formula into one movie, but somehow it still comes out feeling fresh, fun, and original??? The casting also looked kinda random at first, but once the movie gets going, everyone fits their roles so perfectly. The chemistry between the characters really sells the whole grimy, doomed vibe of the film. Honestly, the scariest thing here is probably the over-the-top scoring lol and my other complaint is the inconsistent pace, but besides those everything else works so well for me. The slasher scenes aren’t super excessive or 'go big or go home,' yet they still hit hard. I also love how the film captures that dirty vintage 70s rural Texas atmosphere so vividly. And even though this could easily fall into 'soft porn horror' territory, Ti West handles it in a surprisingly artistic way instead of exploiting it just for shock value. That feels like such a filmmaker move. And Mia Goth… oh my god. I love her sooo much here. She brings this innocent, dreamy energy to Maxine, but underneath it there’s this ambition and emotional complexity that makes her so fascinating to watch. She completely owns the screen every second she’s on it. Stunning, magnetic, and she's an absolute f*cking star!!!
