Today reminded me how important preparation and leadership are when it comes to disaster readiness in our community. We discussed the need for a mock drill for a potential GLOF (Glacial Lake Outburst Flood). Practicing such drills is crucial because it prepares people to respond calmly and effectively if a real disaster occurs. The Tshogpa mentioned that a meeting and mock drill will soon be organized. This gave me hope, because strong leadership and coordination with local authorities play a big role in ensuring that communities are ready and informed. Another concern raised today was about insurance coverage in flood-prone areas. The Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan (RICB) is reportedly unwilling to provide insurance to people living in these high-risk zones. This has created worry among residents who feel vulnerable without protection. It made me think about how important it is for systems and institutions to find ways to support communities that face environmental risks rather than leaving them without options. I also noticed something important about community engagement. When surveys or questionnaires become too long, people often lose interest or feel unwilling to participate. Respecting people’s time is essential. Asking clear and concise questions may encourage better participation and more honest responses. Personally, my energy was quite low today. Fieldwork and discussions can be exhausting. But something simple lifted my spirits — a small girl gave me a hug. That small gesture helped me recharge a little. Later, even an ice cream felt like a small rescue for my tired mind and body. It reminded me how small moments of kindness or comfort can make a big difference. The most meaningful moment of the day came when my sister called me while I was resting. She had informed my parents to watch BBS, where I appeared. Knowing that my family was watching and feeling proud of me made me deeply happy. Their excitement and support reminded me that the work I am doing matters not only to the community but also to the people who love me. Moments like this give me strength and motivation to keep going, even when I feel tired. They remind me why I continue to show up and do my best.
