Silence can be incredibly powerful, and this film really proves it. I love movies like this: quiet, minimal dialogue, but every line hits hard. It actually makes the audiovisual elements of a movie stand out even more. Films like this don’t get much attention here. In my city, I was literally the only one in the theater😅 But honestly, if you watch it with focus, it’s super engaging. It’s very steady and restrained, no flashy suspense, but somehow it still keeps you on edge. The prison setting and interrogation scenes feel really bleak and heavy. The story revolves around two prosecutors, which made it even more interesting for me as a law graduate. I’m always curious about how legal systems work in different countries, especially in the former Soviet Union. I wasn’t that into Soviet history before, but this film actually made me want to dig deeper. It presents the USSR from the perspective of people who are critical of Stalin’s system, without trying to demonize Lenin either. Now I’m more curious about Stalin’s era, especially how he ruled with that 'iron fist' reputation. If anyone has book or documentary recommendations, please let me know!! Very slow-burn, but satisfying. I guess the takeaway is: no matter how smart or powerful you are, don’t trust someone you just met too easily hahaha.
