Another important gem from director Mamoru Hosoda that I finally got around to watching out of nowhere. This anime dives into the dangers of malicious AI on the internet and how it can spill over into real life in terrifying ways: something that feels scarily relevant now that AI is everywhere and being used across almost every part of our daily lives. But before the digital chaos begins, we’re introduced to teenage math genius named Kenji Koiso, who agrees to a 'summer job' from his senior who is also his crush, Natsuki, only to find himself in her hometown in Nagano for something much bigger than he signed up for. What I really love is how smoothly the anime connects these two themes: a wholesome (and slightly chaotic) Japanese summer family setup and a full-blown cyber-AI crisis. The transitions is natural, and the twists are neat and genuinely unexpected. It’s chaotic in the best way possible (big family energy, loud relatives, emotional moments) all clashing with high-stakes digital disaster. The anime doesn’t just tackle AI; it also explores communication, responsibility, generational gaps, and the power of family bonds. Honestly, it’s such a perfect summer watch like the title itself. I’m really falling in love with Mamoru Hosoda’s works, I just realized I almost like all of his films. Keep it up senpai🙏🏻 (And yes, I still regret not watching "Scarlet" in theaters when it was released… I was deep in my 'movie slump' era back then lmao)
