My chest hurt the entire time watching this. It doesn’t rely on a long runtime or flashy dialogue, it simply shows things as they are, and somehow that makes the message hit even harder. Without expensive cinematography or a famous cast, the director still absolutely succeeds in delivering something powerful and devastating. Kaouther Ben gives us a perspective we rarely see: the Red Crescent volunteers on the other end of the line, forced to help from a distance, painfully aware of how little control they actually have. Watching their helplessness unfold was unbearable at times (I cried through multiple scenes). This film feels essential right now. It’s a reminder that war never brings solutions, only more suffering, and that no other Hind Rajab should ever have to go through something like this.
