This is my first Lynne Ramsay film, so I wasn’t familiar with her style. At the beginning, I was honestly confused about where the story was going and why everything kept getting more random. But around the 40-minute mark, it started to come together and the chaos made more sense. I still don’t fully understand the plot or the surreal meaning behind some moments as a whole (maybe it’s all just Grace’s fever dream? who knows), but what really stayed with me is how this film made marriage feel absolutely terrifying. The idea of committing your whole life to someone without knowing what the future holds for them, and having to adapt to their lifestyle…..yeah, that’s scary. *Please God, just send me the right person someday🥹 Jennifer Lawrence is incredible here. Tho I understand why she didn’t get a Best Actress Oscar nomination: there was similar role & performance this year for that category, and she’s been nominated too many times... but this might be her strongest performance so far imo. Seeing her go from the girl from District 12 with no facial expression to a mentally ill mother is wild. It honestly feels like she delivers over 100 different facial expressions and gestures throughout the film, and none of it feels messy or random. She really carries the movie. Shoutout to Robert Pattinson and the baby as well🙌🏻🙌🏻
