I just watched "Twinless", and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t remind me of "Tinggal Meninggal" (an Indonesian film I really like) in a few ways. Even though it’s set in 2025, these both films takes a very different approach and has its own distinct vibe. The story follows Roman, a short-tempered guy dealing with the recent death of his twin brother. To cope with the loss, he joins a therapy group and meets Dennis, who has also lost his twin. Dennis is basically Roman’s opposite, but at the same time, he reminds him a lot of his late brother. They slowly grow close, becoming best friends while carrying their own secrets into the relationship. It’s a black comedy that never forces the tragedy repeatedly, which I really appreciated. The tone feels fresh and surprisingly unique. There’s very little music/soundtrack/score/bgm, which usually doesn’t work for me, but here it absolutely does: the silence gives you space to sit with the characters, reflect on their grief, and even reflect on our own lives. It also has this quiet charm in how it shows male best friendships, or a bromance, actually working through a shared trauma bond in a way that feels honest and human. The pacing is tight too. No unnecessary scenes, just everything that needs to be there. Straightforward, quirky, and refreshingly efficient. I loved it enough that I’d definitely rewatch it. Also, the film casually mentions 'The Sims' multiple times hahaha. It really feels like it’s marketing directly to people who grew up playing 'The Sims 1' and are now fully adult and emotionally damaged (me included, but I'm team #TheSims2 ✌🏻).
