It feels like riding a roller coaster. This film is absolutely insane (in a good way) because its packed with intense, relentless terror (at least for me). And it’s not just filled with cheap jump scares. The craziest, most nerve wracking sequence has to be the elevator scene. The tension is incredibly well built and somehow lingers all the way to the end of the film. The execution is so sharp. It really made me admire Joko Anwar's ideas while also leaving me slightly traumatized. This film feels more complex than the previous one. There are many new characters, each with their own backstories, yet the story still manages to stay centered on this one family. As a former social studies kid, I also appreciated the historical elements woven into the story. The depiction of "petrus" reminds me of real historical narratives... mysterious figures who carried out killings without a trace, much like the Bapak figure in the film. That said, there are quite a lot of dark scenes and flashing visuals that keep the audience constantly on edge. Truly out of the box. Good job, Joko Anwar.
