The merit of this film is to distress its audience without showing anything graphic or resorting to the resources normally used to demonstrate how horrible it is to live in Latin America. A glimpse into the ways a dictatorial government intimidates a family that owes nothing and fears nothing, simply for being against the government's ideology. With a great setting, they transport us to Rio de Janeiro in the early 70s, and the film seems like it was produced in those years. And what I liked the most is that they don't need to show any tragedy for us to understand how dangerous a dictator can be when you disagree with him. The performances are very good, and despite being a very dark and sad topic, ironically, you leave the cinema with a pleasant and hopeful taste in your mouth. Officially my favorite Brazilian film and a contender for the Oscar for best international film, although we know this won't happen because it's 2025 and there are agendas to fulfill.
