A great martial arts and boxing film that uses the "Karate Kid" brand to get people to see it. Li is a young Kung Fu student who emigrates to New York from Beijing and there begins to "enjoy" the warm New York atmosphere with psychopathic karate practitioners and evil loan sharks. The film's story stands perfectly well without the need for characters from the Karate Kid saga, at least for the first half of the movie; in fact, I don't think it needs them at all. BUT at the same time, it does, because it requires something to bring the masses hungry for eighties nostalgia into the movie theaters to enjoy this great film. All the new characters have a very good foundation, and the chemistry between each and every one of them makes this a very enjoyable movie. Highly recommended.
