watched this movie again bc ofc I just had to and I definitely recommend if you’ve watched it already to watch it again. gonna give this a truly honest review this time of all my thoughts: first off i didn’t think the movie was boring at all. I understand that most of the action occurs within the last 30 minutes since it’s supposed to be a slow burn horror, and I really think that works for the movie. as you uncover more about the world, more shit happens. things aren’t happening just to be scary, they happen for a reason and I think that really helps with the perimeters of the limited world building. second, I think that my favorite parts of the movie were the cinematography and the music. I love the cinematography and music in this. It is truly just breathtaking. The editing too, there is so much care and passion and thoughtfulness that is put into this project and you can tell even from the first time that you watch it. you can really tell how much passion and care was put into this project and how much mark really cared about making this the best it could be. the editing with all the lines matching up with each cut, moving and guiding your eyes from one shot to the next is just beautiful. all of marks work through finding the right lenses for the shot really paid off too. I think the story can be a little confusing for some people, especially if you haven’t seen any gameplay of it before. I also think the plot does feel a little bit cheesy at times with the oooo blood scary but that’s really only the beginning that feels like that. marks acting has definitely improved since iswm, you can truly feel that fear and emotion in his voice and body language. each crack in his voice or sound of conviction was absolutely fantastic. after the first 30 minutes I was no longer seeing mark as mark, but as the convict, and truly transported into that sub with him. I find Ava and Simon’s character to be so fascinating, they are such intruiguing characters and i would love to learn more about them and the SM-8 but i doubt we’ll get more lore than what we already have. I will be making fanart of them very soon though! overall I think this was a phenomenal movie and a great start to marks mainstream directing career. I’m totally gonna buy this on dvd and online when it’s available and watch it 5 million times
