always heard of JAWS and saw references to it in a lot of American media, but this is my first time actually sitting down to watch it.
this film absolutely deserves the iconic status it’s in. I found the performances and dialogue to be realistic and grounded, accompanied by well executed suspense that made every crucial moment exciting and intense. I have to admit the few jump scares did work on me, but in my defense, I’m usually not this easily spooked by jump scares, but I have a huge fear of the ocean sooo :)
one thing I found really frustrating is how a 70s film looks way better than so many of today’s films. We need to bring back the art of cinematography, because the washed-out, grey-looking films we have now are NOT it!
on a more sad note, I went on a little side quest and discovered that this film (and original novel) is one of the biggest reasons behind misinformation around sharks which might’ve caused the killing of millions of them :(
