Nice book, good world building. Buuuuuuuuttt the twist was predictable Also, the metadata for this book on Repov says the release date was 2014. It was released this year though?? idk

The writing was good, though. I can't NOT credit that because I did feel immersed and felt the heaviness of the house myself.

The ending was giving Sunset Shimmer vs Twilight Sparkle lowkenuinely lol. The story had a couple twists, although they were predictable, I enjoyed reading the book. I love how the ghosts, the house, and the character's thoughts were described. But I'm gonna have to admit that my lower rating comes with originality bias because I've seen a very similar storyline from The Haunting of Hill House. I also didn't like how Avery would try to investigate but NOBODY WOULD FINISH THEIR SENTENCES. Like maybe it's meant to be some literary device to keep the story going but the mystery was prolonged because the characters just didn't wanna "ok let's not beat around the bush, here's what happened." Instead, they just have very little faith in each other. Maybe it makes sense for the characters: Tessa knows Avery is a skeptic, Avery not seeking for counsel with her husband even though she knows he can speak or even minutely respond, and DOLORES just gatekeeping information when she KNOWS the house is HUNGRY. Dumb it down to "it makes sense for their character arcs" but felt like evasion and it got annoying the third time it happened.
