I have such a difficult relationship with Elvis. I grew up watching his movies and listening to his music at my grandparents' but let's face it, there are so many stains on his legacy. I think everyone who is into music from this time struggles with this all the time. I don't engage with Elvis much at all anymore but I do love to see old concert footage so I went to see what Baz had for us. This is good. I liked the performances - especially seeing him interact with his band. What I like the most, though, is the interview footage that plays, most frequently, over the clips of performances or rehearsals. He's endearing and interesting and is one of those stars that came from nearly nothing and makes it known in his gratitude. He loves music and he loves to entertain and he works hard. He wanted to do more than those bad movies. I think this is really able to capture the positives of Elvis and his career but I do think when the clips of Priscilla started playing, it was jarring how young she looked and then you remember how young she was. That took me out of it a bit but I do think it's important to remember the whole of a person when you're enjoying what they created.
