Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
영화 / TV
They got me with the woke stuff /hj. It felt too fresh and on the nose with Fisk running nyc like our president is running America rn but I do want to applaud them for going for this plot line, it’s not something I would’ve guessed Disney Marvel would ever approve and I think in the end they did a good job. The current injustices make me cry so seeing it mirrored in one of my favorite franchises had me teary at multiple points. Other than that, it really helped having Karen back. I can’t believe Punisher didn’t show up but Jessica Jones was cool. Somehow took me from a bullseye hater to a fan, his scenes were some of the most fun. Matthew Lillard showing up made things 10x better for me, I’m so hyped to see what season 3 has in store for his character, bullseye, and Matt’s prison arc. This suit was Daredevils best imo. I think this could’ve been better if they stuck with the 13 episode format, I will mourn the continuation of the Netflix story that could’ve happened in an alternate universe, but I am happy Daredevil got another 3 seasons. Also if they don’t let Ms. Marvel meet Matt or better yet her and white Tiger work together at some point I will be extremely disappointed.

The more I watch the more I feel a struggle in ranking things, but it’s not lost on my that I gave the Boyfriends comic a significantly higher review than most Marvel projects. It honestly makes me giggle and holds truth that I don’t seem to be a fan of the MCU’s tell not show format, but also reflects that these numbers are more arbitrary than serious. <3

If you’re like me and wish JJK had some more filler with its beloved characters, this book and Summer of Ashes, Autumn of Dust provide a taste of just that.

If you wish JJK had some more filler with the characters, this novel and it’s sequel Thorny Road at Dawn provide a taste of just that!

Absolute cinema, geniunely. Made me cry multiple times.

They don’t make movies this good anymore, this was simply fire. Such a good watch I do think Frost died a little too quickly at the end for all the buildup, but I’m not mad about it because I couldn’t stand him.

That was fantastic wtf. The style of storytelling with the animation and visuals adds so much life and charm and the cultural representation adds to the feel. Kamala feels like a truly relatable teen girl, her friends and surrounding characters were interesting, and I geniunely teared up at the end. I’m honestly upset I never watched sooner and am fully sure that most marvel fans are misogynistic and racist bc this deserves better viewership and ratings. I really would love to see more

ohhh tlok what you could’ve been if you only had time 🥀 finished rewatching and it was the first time I actually saw all four seasons together and it was a rollercoaster. First season is great, the ending maybe slightly rushed, wish we could’ve had more time with Korra with only airbending but otherwise love it. Everyone and their mom knows about the failures of season 2, in my opinion their biggest loss was with Unulaq. If they made him more likable in the beginning, showed him being a good leader in the north, anything like that to establish his presence as a charming and powerful man it would’ve done wonders for him later. Instead he just sucks and pisses me off when he’s on screen and since he’s so strong that pisses me off harder because I don’t even get to enjoy the characters beating his ass, instead I get to sit and cry while he beats them. The romance is worse than season one and takes so much screen time that could’ve been used to better support the story. Mako and Korea’s stuff you can argue was import but Esna and Bolin was not funny enough for how frequent it was. Season 3 made me see the light so clearly I thought I ascended to Heaven after that season of slop. I finally remembered these were the same people behind ATLA and had joy and whimsy again. Those villains are top teir. No notes. Season 4. Man. I wish I liked it but I don’t. I see what they were going for with Kuvira but something about it never resonated with me and I like the masses don’t enjoy the large amounts of using mechs. I get it made sense in the plot, but it’s so freaking boring especially in the universe where they have elemental bending. The ending was beautiful though. I wish we got more korrasami but it’s heartwarming either way. Though Korra deserved better I’m excited to see what they have in store for the next avatar.

I went into this expecting another subpar MCU show but hoping to like it as a Spider-Man fan. The art style isn’t my favorite and the first couple episodes are lackluster, but once it gets the story rolling and introducing and developing characters it gets interesting and only seems to improve. The music is also fire. I really like these depictions of Norman and Harry Osborn, I feel pretty middle of the road with the rest of the cast but overall enjoyed this show much more than expected. I was also not expecting Daredevil to be included so when he was AND it was Charlie Cox, I loved it. That was a big part of what kept me watching bc I am a basic fan girl like that but I’m so glad I did. The ending also dropped some big plot explorations that make a successfully enticing cliffhanger. I will be watching early 2027 for sure.

Animation is stunning, of course. Story is fun, voice acting is occasionally tacky but otherwise great watch. May increase rating in rewatch bc it was fire but we’ll see

Animation is beautiful, I adore Mao Mao as a main character. Story is good. The dynamic between Mao Mao and Jinshi just isn’t enjoyable to me, I’m aware it’s supposed to be one sided in an over-the-top unserious way but it just comes across as her having no interest and Jinshi making moves on her regardless because he has the power to. It just gives me the ick. Season 2 lesbian arc was peak, made this show 10x more enjoyable and I will be forever sad it’s over but glad I witnessed it. Hammered the point home in my mind that Mao Mao and Jinshi just ain’t it as she continued to ignore his advances of opening up to her, let alone acting romantically, while going out of her way to spend more time with her friends and care so deeply for them it shows outwardly undeniably. It’s not even bias towards wlw being superior bc I could convince myself Jinshi was a woman if I squinted (half the time it’s like Mao Mao’s trying to do that herself) but she has simply never shown interest in that man. I know she can be unreliable, like how she was with her father, but it won’t change my mind it feels like we’re venturing towards Stockholm syndrome more than a legit romance with any chemistry.

It is undeniably cringe but it’s also cute, rare polyamory rep and lgbt college rep, and has a stunning art style so it’s fun regardless and worth a read at least once imo.

First 3 episodes are rough. I’ve tried watching this show 3 times since it came out last year but only am now reviewing it because it took multiple attempts to stick with it. The first episode made bold moves on shaky footing, the pace felt fast, the cgi was noticeable, but it made attempts at showcasing they still had the cinematic style everyone loved. Then, episode 2 felt slow. If you’re mildly politically conscious, watching this parody is just as frustrating as the real thing but it uses the characters you love. The dialogue is one note, straight to the point, lacking the depth it used to have. But the characters are good. The plot, once it gets moving, flows familiarly. Camilla Rodgrigez’s acting as Angela del Toro, White Tiger’s daughter, caught my attention. I don’t understand the writing choices behind Heather Glenn as she is not at all written like a therapist. I think this show was set up for failure when it was green lit with less episodes and wasn’t given extra time to perfect the script. Once you get past the beginning, it’s watchable though. It feels like a Disney’s Marvel rendition of Daredevil. I’ll be watching the second season with high hopes, because I’ve heard it gets better, but I am still very disappointed with this being what follows the amazing trilogy we had.

Not bad, good fights, good characters. Kate’s dialogue feels one dimensional, plot is slow at times but otherwise not terrible. It is nice seeing Kate learn from Hawkeye. I do wish more conflict was there with Clint not being with his family for the holidays. It wouldn’t take much to include a phone argument with Clint and one of the older kids, or the wife making a short comment alluding to his presentation towards them after Natasha died or the snap, or the wife trying to hold back frustrations because they’re worried. Just something, it feels like Clint and the framing doesn’t care largely about them so I struggle to as well. Maya is a really cool character, interested in seeing her show but frustrated here they “included” her signing but half off it is off screen and she’s the only one speaking in asl while even the ones who are supposed to interact with her regularly simcom or mostly don’t know sign. Maybe it’s supposed to show the lack of accessibility in society and is intentional but when they add subtetitles so audience hearing understands her signing but don’t even let her use of asl be shown fully it makes the inclusion feel more like a secondary gimmick for brownie points than intentional representation for an often forgotten audience. I’m hoping her show is different in this regard. The twists felt predictable but it’s not an awful watch. Wouldn’t reach for it again but I wouldn’t be against watching it again.

With every Captain Marvel movie I see the concept but the execution feels boring, like the show runners aren’t really into the execution either. Like they wanted to have it be a fun team up of these 3 with the short animated part in Kamala’s style and the quirky lines and the heartfelt scene but they don’t commit to anything to make it feel meaningful. Like when Captain Marvel is revealed as princess on that singing planet because she made a diplomatic agreement, it’s a funny scene but nothing more. They help fight the… kraag? in the most run of the mill fight scene. But there’s so much more they could’ve done with that. If she cared enough about that planet to make herself royalty despite how inconvenient, let us see that. Give her chemistry with the people, let them suck at fighting because they’re a world of singing folk and give casualties when they’re fighting to make the stakes feel real and create conflict in our main characters. Or give them a unique fighting method that makes them more interesting, they had a cool war cry when the other aliens showed up but then just fought with swords? Have them fight with their voices or at least give some war cries while fighting, so their main form of communicating doesn’t just feel like a one off bit. Why is Nick Fury there if he’s only ever useless. How do you have 3 super heroes but the fights are boring. Other than the villains having a poor backstory of having no sun on their planet anymore and struggling to breath, we know nothing about them. Marvel doesn’t seem to care about telling new interesting stories, just grasping for big hits or write offs.

I think the actor interviews carry the fans perception of this show. I personally wanted to like this, I love Sam and was excited to see how they played with him as the new Captain America. You can see my disappointment as him being in that role was not something we followed for most of this story, but I still gave it a chance. I agree with anyone feeling strong conflict with taking up the shield adds interest. I also like Bucky. But the plot felt boring. It’s dialogue heavy and the fights are basic and boring. The visuals are bland as well, maybe it’s meant to build appeal in being down to earth but it didn’t land with me. It’s acceptable plot on paper but the pacing felt so slow. The only interesting part, how this new identity confronted his identity as a black man, was in my opinion not explored enough. Maybe my expectations are too high bc Daredevil is my favorite Marvel show but this wasn’t entertaining when it should’ve been.

I simply don’t know how I’d rate this movie. I’m a little mad they backtracked on the old man being dead, I get why they did it but it didn’t add much bringing him back and I would’ve rather seen Karen again. The cgi was jarring, which is to be expected from a 2002 film but the first one must’ve used practical effects or more effort because it looked awesome. Some of the action was still good, but some scenes were inexplicably lame. Like in the beginning, what’s the point of the one vamp having a gun just to not use it? Sure they weren’t there to kill blade, but then why not bring another weapon like the girl did? And if he knew Scud was a villain like he claimed, why walk into the trap barely prepared? The plot was much more predictable, didn’t care for the romance. The body horror was still decent but not as prevalent. It’s watchable, just forgettable, opposite of the first. I did enjoy they at least killed the vamp they joked about throughout the movie.
