EDIT. UPDATED REVIEW HEAVY SPOILER WARNING. I think this adaptation is beautifully made. What stood out to me most is how it explores grief in such a direct, unflinching way that it's impossible to ignore. Yes, Nolan rewrites parts of Homer's story to better suit his vision and make it more accessible to modern audiences, but I became so immersed in everything surrounding the narrative that I found myself appreciating the film for what it is rather than what it changes. As the story unfolds, its exploration of shame begins to outweigh even its grief. Shame becomes the film's emotional core, carrying far more weight than simple regret. I also loved the symbolism. The lotus represents repression and self-imposed imprisonment, while Athena's trinket serves as a constant reminder of Odysseus' guilt and the burden of his own ego. Personally, I don't think the film lacks much. Could the female characters have been given more development? Absolutely. But I wouldn't trade any part of the screenplay to make room for it. Every scene feels deliberate and falls perfectly into place. By the end, all I wanted to do was pick up Homer's Odyssey and experience the original for myself.

I'm not gonna trust any discourse of this film online. This film is generational because it is not because of Nolan not because of the "filmed entirely on 70mm". This got a standing ovation in my cinema hall. I'm reviewing the full thing once I learned about the context, rewatching it on the 18th.

I Saw the TV Glow × Forbidden Fruits × The Craft fever dream. An occult-glazed sisterhood tale that feels entirely Avalon Fast's own. Avalon Fast is genuinely one of the directors I hope gets more recognition and commercial success. I haven't seen Honeycomb or Drinking and Driving yet, but after reading her blog posts, articles, and interviews, I get her whole "girl horror" ethos even more. Can't wait to see more film from her and Camp Miasma.

As a ballerina myself, I'm dropping out of my 3rd year and never competing again LOL. This film is so deadpan; I get why some people don't get it, but I genuinely enjoyed this. The choreography, the pace, the writing, the plot, even the anti-hero of it all call me easy to please, but this is just fab.

State-of-the-art hyper surreal theatrical fun wrapped in the morbidly beautiful film. An instant top 4. Something about this film scratches my brain in the best possible way. The sets, the production, the characters, the plot, the writing. Everything about it kept pulling me in deeper and deeper. And honestly, I need more. It's campy, grotesque and eccentric in every way possible.

iI don't remember exactly when I first watched this, but I know I've never felt more connected to a show. Growing up, I moved from Penang to Negeri Sembilan, then the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and finally found my footing in Kuala Lumpur. Living in so many places gave me the chance to meet all kinds of people and personalities, but it also left me with this lingering feeling of never truly belonging. Being biracial didn't exactly make that any easier. This show captures that feeling and somehow goes even deeper. I think I was 18 when I first saw it. Still lost. Still trying to figure out where I belonged. Still completely clueless. Watching it made me realize that, as much as I want to scream a big "fuck you" to the world sometimes, I'm also eternally grateful for the life I had. My upbringing gave me the chance to experience different cultures, perspectives, and people, and ultimately brought me closer to the things I genuinely love. Maybe belonging was never about finding a place. Maybe it was about finding myself.
