I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki
책
I honestly don't know how I feel about this book. When I first picked up I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki, I thought it would be one of those books where the person goes through depression, finds themselves and eventually everything gets better. But it wasn't like that at all. The book is basically a collection of conversations between Baek Se-hee and her psychiatrist. She talks about her depression, anxiety, insecurities, relationships, body image, loneliness, and that constant feeling of “what is wrong with me?” And sometimes, I'm not gonna lie, it felt repetitive. She kept coming back to the same thoughts and patterns even after realizing they were hurting her. But maybe that's what made it feel real. Because healing isn't always this beautiful, linear journey where you suddenly become okay. Sometimes you understand exactly what's wrong with you and still can't stop feeling that way. And the ending doesn't magically fix everything either. She doesn't suddenly become happy. She doesn't have all the answers. She just keeps going. And somehow, the tteokbokki part stayed with me the most. "I want to die, but I want to eat tteokbokki." It's such a strange sentence, but it's also painfully human. You can be completely exhausted with life and still have tiny things you want. Your favourite food. A song. A conversation. A person. A random little moment that makes you think, “Maybe I'll stay a little longer.” I think that's what this book ultimately gave me, not a perfect happy ending but a reason to keep going even when you're not completely okay. Sometimes you don't need to love your whole life. Sometimes you just need something small you still want to experience tomorrow. 🥢🤍

Okay, this was my 20th time watching Piku and somehow this movie still hits me. 🥹🤍 I think I connect with Piku so much because her relationship with her dad reminds me of mine. The random arguments, getting annoyed at each other, complaining about the smallest things, and then secretly worrying about each other five minutes later. 😂❤️ It’s not a perfect relationship, but it’s ours. And I absolutely love Piku and Rana’s relationship too. It feels so natural. There’s no unnecessary drama or instant “I’m madly in love with you” nonsense. They just slowly understand each other. Rana gives Piku space, listens to her, accepts all her chaos, and somehow becomes this safe person for her. That’s probably what I love most about Piku. It’s not really just a love story. It’s about love in all its messy forms between a daughter and her father, between two people slowly falling for each other, and even the little things we do for people without realizing how much they mean. I’ve watched this movie 20 times, and I know I’ll probably watch it again. 😭 Some movies you watch because they’re good. Some you keep watching because they feel like home. Piku is definitely the second one for me. 🤍

I love how ChatGPT turned all my little dreams, goals, and random obsessions into one picture. 🥹💗✨

Lately, I've been thinking about how strange life is. Sometimes you're just trying to get through the day, holding on to your family, your friends, your little routines, the things that keep you here. And then, somehow, someone walks into your life without even trying to save you. They just talk to you. They show you movies. They tell you stories. They make you laugh about things you haven't laughed about in a long time. And you don't notice it at first, but something inside you starts waking up again. Maybe it was the little girl in me who always wanted to escape into movies whenever real life became too much. Maybe she finally found somewhere safe for a few hours. I don't know if he knows how much those little things meant to me. Maybe he never will. And that's okay. Because sometimes someone can become a beautiful part of your life without ever becoming yours. I know there are parts of him he keeps hidden. Parts that probably hurt more than he lets anyone see. And sometimes I wish he would let someone find those parts and tell him, "You don't have to be scared anymore." I wish something incredibly beautiful happens to him someday. Something so happy that he forgets why he was afraid to love. Even if that happiness isn't me. I think I'd still be happy for him. Because maybe loving someone isn't always about being loved back. Sometimes it's just quietly hoping life is kind to them even when they never know how much you hoped for it.

I could spend my whole life wanting them, but what if loving them means eventually watching them suffer because of the life I was never able to escape?

I don't even know what I'm feeling anymore. Is this love? Attraction? Fear of losing someone who's not even mine? Or am I just overthinking everything because it's 2am? I don't wanna study. I don't have motivation. Sometimes I genuinely don't even understand why I'm doing this MBA when a part of me keeps thinking that eventually I'll forget everything anyway. And then there's my health. What if it gets worse? What if one day I can't work? What if all the plans I have for my career just fall apart? The thought of being unemployed and dependent on others for the rest of my life honestly scares the hell out of me. Taking medicines day after day is exhausting. Trying to stay hopeful is exhausting. Even when I finally start hoping that maybe I could love someone, have a family, build a normal life… my brain immediately reminds me that maybe I can't. Sometimes it feels like I'm watching my own future disappear while I'm still trying to live in the present. And honestly, that's fucking exhausting. I don't know what's wrong with my life right now. I don't have some deep inspirational ending to this. I'm just tired. Maybe tomorrow I'll feel differently. I really hope I do.

After my breakup, I finally started liking someone again. It took me so much courage to open my heart because I was terrified of getting hurt. He liked me too or at least that's what I thought. One day, I told him everything about my past. I chose to be honest because I never wanted to build something on lies. But the moment he found out I wasn't a virgin, everything changed. He started pulling away, ghosted me for a week, and then I found out he had already gone back to his ex. That hurt more than I can explain. Not because he chose someone else, but because I realized I was never someone he truly wanted. I was just filling the empty space while he was trying to get over his ex. I really thought maybe my heart deserved another chance. Turns out, I was just someone else's temporary distraction.

I was five years old the first time it happened. A cousin touched me in ways he shouldn't have, and even though I didn't have words for it yet, I knew something was wrong. I told my mother. I remember that much clearly. But instead of protecting me, she told me to keep it quiet and not to tell anyone else in the family. So I did what she asked. I stayed silent even though the discomfort never really left me. Then, years later, in Class 6, it happened again worse this time. Exactly the same cousin grabbed me by my hair, dragged me into a garage and put his hand over my mouth so no one would hear me. He forced me to touch him and hurt me physically. I was a child and I was terrified and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Later, when I finally trusted someone enough to open up . It was my ex-boyfriend I told him everything, hoping he'd understand what I'd been through. Instead, he did the same things to me. That one hurt differently. It wasn't just betrayal, it was the collapse of the one safe place I thought I'd found. I still carry all of it. Some days it's quiet, tucked away somewhere I don't have to look at it. Other days it's right there and impossible to ignore. But I'm still here, still standing even with the weight of it.

Missing a version of myself that no one else noticed was quietly disappearing 🙁

Today I'm mentally and physically exhausted. This feels like the only place where I can be honest without feeling judged. Not many people know that I'm living with stage 1 dementia. Every day I wake up hoping I'll recover soon. Taking nine medicines every single day feels overwhelming. Sometimes I wonder... isn't it too early to be saying goodbye to my good and bad memories? This illness feels like it's slowly eating away at pieces of me. Some days I get lost between the past and the present. I become confused, frustrated, and angry not because I want to but because my mind doesn't always cooperate. The hardest part isn't the medicines or the confusion. It's pretending that I'm okay when deep down I'm suffocating. I keep feeling like I'm losing the potential I once had, and that thought hurts more than I can explain. Sometimes I wish someone would simply sit beside me, pat my head, and say, "Everything will be okay. I'm here with you." I don't need grand promises just someone who chooses to stay. Even with all this, I haven't stopped hoping. I still believe that one day someone will love me, accept me, and see me beyond my illness. Until then, I'll keep praying for healing and trying my best to hold on to the person I know I am. I hope tomorrow is a little kinder than today. 🌸
