Love, Theoretically
책
I think the relationship dynamic between Elsie and Jack was the best so far among the three academia love books. I really, really liked Jack. I liked the flavor he brought as an Ali Hazelwood man. He was, obviously, still the same hot pining nerd of a male lead, but he was funnier and sassier and I liked the personality he brought to the story. This one I would classify under enemies-to-lovers, because at one point it did feel that way, even though Jack was still very much pining after her. They were fun and funny and so interesting to read about. The romance between them was sweet. I also really loved Elsie. I think it was great, highlighting the difficulty of getting a good job that can sustain you and your medical needs, and as someone who also struggles with a lifetime disease that needs constant expensive medication and care, I liked that Ali Hazelwood brought to life a female lead who has health problems and talked about the expenses she had to worry about as well. She was the most relatable character also in terms of her personality, and I liked reading about her. I would have given this a 5 but I docked one point off because someone pointed out in their review that Jack didn’t really do much for Elsie in the plot. I mean, sure, there were times when he’d take her out, offered her a job, that one final article he wrote for her, but I think I’ve just gotten used to the more obvious gestures of love from the past two books. I think that’s fine though, it shows that love isn’t always about grand gestures, and the plot was more of Elsie finding her own stability in life and finding herself while getting to know the people around her. But I don’t know, it just felt like it was lacking something. I will be rereading this for sure and trying to take note of his gestures of love and maybe I’ll reconsider the rating. Way more technical terms here (on physics this time), but I liked how Ali Hazelwood highlighted the politics in academia. It was interesting to read about and I liked that the plot revolved on that.

Love on the Brain
책
There is a pattern to Ali Hazelwood’s MMCs and that’s the big hot nerdy guy who’s been in love with the girl long before their relationship progressed. And honestly, I’m okay with that. I like that trope a lot. Bonus points because the men are always so gentle and sweet with with the female leads, even though they’re supposedly on that enemies-to-lovers vibe. Which, actually, I don’t think this qualifies as, because the enemies thing was sort of one-sided (though everyone else thought otherwise). It has a tad bit more technical stuff than The Love Hypothesis, though this focuses on engineering and neuroscience instead of biological research. I like how Ali Hazelwood highlights different branches of STEM, and I feel like her books have truly made me appreciate sciences in general. I feel like Levi Ward was written in the same font as Adam Carlsen. While I said that I liked how her men are more or less the same (hot pining nerd), I feel like he was just too much like Adam or maybe the visuals in the book covers made them too alike for me. She did try to show differences like how smiled more than Adam and was supposedly friendlier, but I think they just kept blurring in my head. Nevertheless, I still actually really enjoyed it. The romance was sweet and cute. I just feel like this book was a bit too millennial for me (outfits, descriptions), or maybe it was just the fact that Bee was a manic pixie dream girl character. I was stressed when she refused to see that Levi was in love with her, but I also think that the fear when you’re falling in love is something we can easily judge when we’re not in the situation, especially since Levi’s love ran so deep. I loved her though, and I related a lot to how she didn’t want to adopt a cat because she was scared of feeling the loss afterwards, which was how I felt before my calico (like Felicette) came to us.

I’m seeing myself in Olivia Rodrigo’s latest songs and I don’t like it. I’ll be honest and say I didn’t like this song that much when I first listened to it. I was expecting to feel the same thrill when I first listened to Drop Dead (which I loved upon first listen, but I’ll review that on another post), but the first few gloomy notes and atmosphere of the song deterred me a little from listening. After a second listen and actually understanding the lyrics, I began to appreciate it more. Unfortunately for me, it was because I resonated with the song a little too much. I interpreted this song as someone who has come to find love but has yet to fully heal and love themself. It’s finding someone who is finally good for you and good to you but realizing that the problem is now yourself. It’s realizing that no matter how much reassurance and care the person can give you, you just can’t seem to get out of the prison that is your head, something you thought you’d be free from once you finally find someone so genuine and so good to you. How timely it is for her to release this when I, too, have finally found good love and yet cannot seem to fully reciprocate it because of the voices in my head :’)

I fear this book took longer to move on from than the other three and maybe right now it might just be one of my favorites 😬 It was actually pretty sweet for a book whose plot primarily revolved on the fact that the two leads had the same interests in terms of intimacy (idk how much I can say on here). I’ll admit, I didn’t think there would be much substance, but it proved me so wrong. Lukas and Scarlett’s dynamic was cute. I like that despite them having bonded over that particular interest, Lukas cared for her not just because he was obligated to, but because he clearly valued her. It was a strange new type of plot to read, but their chemistry is something I really enjoyed.

Currently running a high fever right now but I just had to rate this book lmao I originally picked it up for funsies because I found it hilarious that it was actually a Reylo fic and Daisy Ridley’s actual husband, Tom Bateman (the one Tom Benton is based on 🤣) is playing Adam Carlsen in the live action adaptation, but I ended up actually liking it. The first reason I ended up liking it because Dr. Adam Carlsen is SOOOOOO Dr. Zayne coded HAHAHAHA even though Adam is a PhD and Zayne is an MD, their gentle, calm, stoic demeanors are so alike and I think that’s honestly why I gave it 5 stars (I am biased). It starts off as a very typical fake dating trope, but there are hints of a reveal in the middle and eventually a big reveal in the end. The dynamic between the two is fun, and I think it also qualifies under grumpy x sunshine, except grumpy is very sweet and gentle to sunshine. I really like that dynamic. Another reason why I liked it is because of the STEM theme. It’s a field I am very familiar with, and despite me being on the medical side of it and the characters being on the academia side, the mention of research and the laboratory setting (the departments, the techniques) made me feel right at home. It is also very empowering and honestly, it made me think about going into academia. However, even if you aren’t in the STEM field, you’ll still be able to digest the story really easily. It’s a fun and quick read, and I’m kind of upset that it felt so short for me. I fell in love with the characters and I already miss them. I think this goes under my guilty pleasure reads. Fair warning, there is one 18+ chapter that’s quite detailed, so please do not read it unless you are of age.

if only 7/11s here had this 🥲5/5 considering this is literally from a convenience store ?? so so so delicious, i had a whole vid of me eating it LMAO honestly do not have much to say, it was just truly a wonderful experience for me AHAHAHA strawberry filling + thick cream, not whipped cream texture which i really liked. it was really like something you ordered from a café. if someone served those at pastry shops, i wouldn’t even know (nor would i care tbh) perhaps the score is also as it is bc it’s japan

my best friend got this for me for my birthday this year and i really loved it. it melted on one side (as my birthday cake always does every year) but it still held up pretty well. it didn’t look like the usual strawberry cream cake on the outside, but it was pretty much the same on the inside. they were very generous with the strawberries on the filling between each layer and i liked the cream they used. it wasn’t very sweet, instead, the flavors that were highlighted were strawberry and wine. you can’t taste much of the wine at first, but as it sets for a day or two in the refrigerator, the wine taste is really strong. i liked it though, it went really well with the rest of the cake. 10/10 would eat it again

i think it’s so funny that the cake with the ugliest pic is literally the best strawberry cake i’ve ever eaten LMAO my friends got this for me 2 years ago and until now i still cannot stop thinking about her 😬 i have a birthday curse of having my cake melt literally every year but even if it melted, it was still sooo good (and anyway, at least the different layers can be seen better in this melted pic) if you’re not a fan of cake/food in general with different textures, you might not like this, but i personally really loved that the layers were all different. the topmost was a gelatin/pudding-like layer, it was strawberry flavored and not too sweet and i really liked having it with the actual cake (chiffon ??) layer. no actual strawberry pieces were in it but i won’t take points off for that because the strawberry jam filling was good too and it had strawberry pulp (?) in it. the last layer had shredded coconut coated around it and i liked the texture of it. surprisingly, the different textures of the layers went well together. iirc it also had wine or rum infused in the cake, and the flavor of it went well with the rest of the cake. not a traditional strawberry cream cake, but she was still the best strawberry cake i’ve ever had.

life changing. u have no idea how much this made me sob. as a fifteen year old this was everything to me

i really liked it. it was a simple take on strawberry cake. unlike other strawberry cakes, it didn’t really have much actual strawberries in between layers, but instead it had strawberry filling/cream, which had the strawberries already mixed and mashed into it. despite this, it was still very good and tasted fresh. if you’re not a big fan of the different textures in food, you’ll like this. the cream frosting also held up really well (look at that perfect cut). i wish the serving size was a bit bigger though. not sure if they sell a whole cake version, but i hope they do because it’d be great as a birthday cake.

I couldn't finish this book as quickly as Strange Houses because l had to stop several times and stare at the ceiling every time something big happened or was revealed. It’s really good. I liked the way things connected and the way it was told and the reveals in each chapter left me sitting and just processing in between chapters. I was sort of hoping for another secret reveal in the end of the last chapter like in Strange House's afterword, but that's just me, so if you like closed cases, you're gonna love this! The first chapter was INSANE. I really liked the way they figured out stuff about the pictures. Genius work.

it looks like the usual strawberry cream cake, which i liked (all white cream with strawberries on top). it was good but i found it bit sweeter than others. serving size was also quite small. they had strawberries in between layers which was nice. the cream also had a bit more of like a whipped cream texture, which i didn’t really like, but it made the cake soft to eat.

Towards the end, things felt a little anticlimactic for me, but there were little reveals and speculations in the afterword that I didn't expect which made me like it a bit more. Definitely a mystery that's more than just figuring out who the real culprit is and more like figuring out what's really going on here, but the reveals just weren't very satisfying for me bc some of them were things already speculated on in the other chapters. I liked Strange Pictures a whole lot more, but I really like the way the story of Strange Houses is told though! Makes you feel like you’re uncovering the mystery at the same time as the author and their friend.

Actual review this time LMAO First season was great. I loved this show. It was the only medical drama I enjoyed other than House, M.D. because it did well in portraying work in the hospital without all the unnecessary drama (which is one reason why I can’t really get into Grey’s Anatomy). It was just about a doctor who was doing his best to learn how to give patients the care they needed. Season 2 was also good. This time it involved a bit more drama than the first season, but I liked it because it was integrated into the plot in a way that showed us that healthcare workers also deal with a whole lot of shit in life, like grief, mental health conditions, family problems, etc. I think it was great in portraying how despite all that shit, we still gotta do what we gotta do because people’s lives are on the line, but I liked that the show focused on them addressing these issues and learning to heal and cope, because you can’t heal others if you are also sick (and not just physically). Everything beyond season 2 I didn’t quite like HAHAH it became too much of a soap opera for me, and I didn’t really like some of the plot elements they introduced to the show :P Some of the characters became too frustrating to watch and it just wasn’t the same anymore.

I made an internship friend during my second hospital rotation. She was an intern from another school and we met during one AM shift together in the Microbiology department. I was a little nervous because there were two of them from the same school on duty in that department and only one of me. But she was very nice and taught me the ropes because it was my first day. We barely had any shifts together after that but she was so sweet and kind whenever we managed to pass each other in the lab. We exchanged compliments and words of encouragement and she was genuinely one of the best people I met during my internship program. Last week, her school’s internship schedule with the hospital we were in ended, and we eventually had to say goodbye. She’s now in a different hospital, while I’m on my last week of duty in our current hospital, but before she left, she mentioned that I’d be meeting one of her friends soon who was part of the new batch of interns from their school who were coming to rotate at the hospital after them. She told me that her friend also liked Moomin (I had a Moomin pouch where I stored my gloves) and that she told her friend about me. I made sure to remember her friend’s name. Yesterday, I finally met her friend, and she was just as sweet and kind as the intern friend I made. We had just met (I was on my way out from an AM shift and she just about to go on duty for her PM shift) but we were already giggling and excitedly talking about how her friend had mentioned us to each other. We shared compliments (she said I was so cute 🥹) and spoke for only a few minutes before I had to leave, but that interaction really made my day. I think it is so wonderful to meet girl’s girls, those who are connected by other girls, those you share friendly smiles and excited chatter with, those who are so sweet and kind, those you know have got your back without even having to say it, despite you only just knowing each other for a few months or even for just a few minutes. We probably won’t be seeing each other again (or maybe we will, who knows?) but I don’t think I’ll ever forget those two. They’re part of who really made my last few months of internship wonderful ❤️

the sharp contrast between: • the christmas songs playing on the lab’s speakers that made people feel the christmas spirit for the first time this year and; • the patients and/or their significant others in the waiting area clutching their lab requests and results with faces full of worry and distress one of the reasons that it’s difficult to be a healthcare worker is seeing people in so much pain every day (on top of knowing that these people could have had, at the very least, their financial burdens from hospital bills lifted off their shoulders if the ones in power worked to actually serve the people they were meant to serve instead of just serving themselves)

I fear all I’ll be writing about for the next few days will be this game because I just need an outlet to process my thoughts (spoiler free unless marked) and frankly there is a lot to process. It feels like the other Silent Hill games, slowly unsettling, lore-heavy, and thought-provoking with all the symbolisms, and I can’t help but feel for some of the characters (Hinako, Sakuko, and Shu so far, definitely not that one pick-me girl who had me rolling my eyes every time she said a word :P). That’s most of what I feel for now because I’m still at the part where she’s “bidding farewell” at the Dark Shrine. Not even halfway through it yet LMAO and I literally have an exam tomorrow so I’m just highlighting my notes while I listen to my boyfriend’s commentary while he plays the game 🙏 I was going to apologize for talking too much about this game but I realized that this is my page anyway so I should really just feel free to yap about my stuff. I am trying to re-learn that my presence is not a nuisance 🍵

hinako shimizu is a horror game protagonist you just can’t help but root for 😔 truly must have been hard back then when women were easily married off to random men by their families, and i think the fact that she’s been rebelling against her family because of that is remarkable (not a spoiler, it’s the premise of the game) love her 🫶 adding her to my cosplans (kotoyuki/fox mask is also calling out to me but i still do not know how i feel abt cosplaying him) gonna post a full review when i finish and get the whole lore! pics stolen from pinterest lmao

URGH i hate that this man is so hot bc he did my girl so dirty but he just looks so good ????? no to him still but like damn they didn’t have to make so hot (maybe it’s just the fox mask he wears bc i like foxes)
